KyberScore Meta Tierlist
The KyberScore Tierlist is currently in Beta. The "Raw" Tierlist is set as the default view.
The Raw Tierlist scores archetypes by winrate over the course of the current meta cycle.
The KyberScore Tierlist scores archetypes by using a custom formula explained below.
KyberScore Explained
What is KyberScore?
KyberScore is our power ranking system that provides a more accurate assessment of archetype strength than raw win rates alone. It considers multiple factors to give you a realistic picture of how competitive each deck actually is.
Why Not Just Use Win Rate?
Raw win rates can be misleading in competitive scenes:
-
Small samples: A deck with few players might show inflated win rates
-
Player skill variance: Expert pilots can skew results for niche decks
-
Meta impact: High win rate with tiny meta share has less competitive relevance
-
Tournament success: Consistent top finishes matter more than individual matches
How KyberScore Works
KyberScore balances four key factors:
1. Performance Score (40% win rate + 40% top 8 rate + 20% top 4 rate)
-
Emphasizes tournament placement over individual match results
-
Rewards consistent high finishes across multiple events
2. Meta Confidence Weight
-
High confidence (100%): 2%+ meta share - proven competitive relevance
-
Medium confidence (scaling): 0.5-2% meta share - emerging viability
-
Low confidence (10%): <0.5% meta share - niche or experimental
3. Sample Size Reliability
-
Full reliability (100%): 50+ deck registrations - statistically robust
-
Scaling reliability: 5-50 deck registrations - moderate confidence
-
Heavy penalty (20%): <5 deck registrations - unreliable sample
4. Tournament Spread Validation
-
Proven (100%): 3+ tournaments - consistent performance across available events
-
Good validation (95%): 2 tournaments - reliable pattern emerging
-
Moderate validation (85%): Single tournament - limited but acceptable data
The Final Calculation
Performance Score × Meta Confidence × Sample Reliability × Tournament Spread = KyberScore
The final score represents the archetype's overall competitive strength, ranging from 30-60.
Score Ranges and Tiers
-
Tier 1 (50+): Elite meta-defining archetypes
-
Tier 2 (45-49): Strong competitive options
-
Tier 3 (40-44): Viable tournament choices
-
Tier 4 (<40): Emerging, niche, or underperforming archetypes
Example: A Well-Ranked Archetype
Consider an archetype that demonstrates why KyberScore is effective:
-
Large sample size (500+ registrations) → Full sample reliability
-
Significant meta presence (15%+ share) → Full meta confidence
-
Multi-tournament success (appears across many events) → Strong validation
-
Solid performance (good win rate + consistent top 8s) → Strong performance score
Even if this archetype doesn't have the absolute highest win rate, its statistical reliability and meta impact earn it a high KyberScore. This contrasts with a deck that might have 80% win rate but only 3 registrations—that deck would score much lower due to sample size penalties.
Reading the Rankings
-
Tier 1 (50+): Elite meta-defining archetypes with exceptional statistical backing
-
Tier 2 (45-49): Strong competitive archetypes with reliable performance data
-
Tier 3 (40-44): Viable tournament options with moderate sample sizes
-
Tier 4 (<40): Emerging, niche, or statistically limited archetypes
Why This Matters
KyberScore helps players make better meta decisions by:
-
Identifying reliable decks vs. statistical anomalies
-
Understanding meta impact beyond just win rates
-
Making informed choices based on proven data
-
Tracking development over time
Continuous Improvement
The algorithm is regularly refined based on:
-
Community feedback and meta developments
-
Tournament result validation
-
Statistical model improvements
-
Comparison with actual competitive outcomes
This ensures the rankings stay accurate and useful as the meta evolves.
